The ARSC Curriculum Committee

By Trevonna Hayle
Administrator, ARSC

It’s safe to say that the heart of ARSC is our program curriculum. The Curriculum Committee’s mission is to assure the integrity of ARSC’s Basic Orientation Plus® and Basic Orientation Plus – Refresher®, as well as any additional reciprocal programs developed by ARSC.

The Curriculum Committee meets quarterly to discuss the development of new programs and updates to existing programs. Throughout the year, they work to complete the action items that arise from the quarterly meetings. ARSC Members are encouraged throughout the year to notify the committee of any program edits they feel are necessary. Programs are updated no more than once per year unless there is a change in safety standards that requires an immediate update.

The Curriculum Committee works closely with our Owners Advisory Committee for owner input on programs that are being revised, current programs, and suggestions on any new programs they would like ARSC to implement. The Curriculum Committee recently completed updates to our Basic Orientation Plus® and Basic Orientation Plus – Refresher® Courses, which will be delivered by all safety councils as of April 1, 2020.

Currently, the committee’s initiative to revamp ARSC’s ProtectWatch Program is underway and expected to be available in the later this year. This revamp will change the program from a computer-based-training, to a one-day, instructor led course. The committee is also developing a Silica program, which will be computer-based. Please check with your local safety council if interested in the ProtectWatch or Silica programs as not all safety councils will deliver them.
